Semicolon Tattoo event for suicide awareness - April 2024

Teaming up with tattoo artists across the world again for 2024, and in collaboration with SAPUK , we took part in the Semicolon Tattoo event to raise awareness for suicide prevention.

World Semicolon day is 16th April. The annual tattoo event is to help raise awareness about suicide and mental health. The Semicolon represents a break in a sentence, rather than the end of a sentence, and has been adapted as a symbolic tattoo to represent a person’s story not being over.

We were proud to take part in the event this year and made some cute semicolon tattoos to raise awareness for such an important cause.

Data shows that in 2022, there were 5,642 suicides registered in England and Wales. That is 5,624 too many. We hope that by taking part in this event, it helps open up conversations and support for those suffering with their mental health and encourages people to get help.

Many celebrities have the semicolon tattoo to show solidarity for people who have dealt with suicide, depression, addiction, and other mental health issues. The semicolon tattoo has different, personal meanings for everyone.

There are many global, national and local mental health charities and support groups that can help people any time in their lives when they may need extra support. Local to us in Anstey, Leicester, we have Sunrise Wellbeing Therapy Centre and we were delighted to have some of the staff come along and get their very own semicolon tattoos!

A sense of community is very important to us, and we hope that by taking part this year, we have helped just one person open up a conversation for suicide awareness.

We look forward to taking part again next year!
