What to bring to your tattoo appointment…

So, the exciting day is here, you’re going to get your new tattoo! Hopefully you will have spoken to your artist or read our blog post on how to prepare for your appointment here before the day arrives. If so, you’re all set and ready to go! Here’s a few tips on what you need to bring with you on the day to ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience:

Comfort is of the upmost importance when getting tattooed. Make sure you wear comfortable, loose clothing to sit or lay down in, and allows easy access to the area you are getting tattooed. If you’re unsure, always speak to your artist and they will be able to offer advice.

Pillows and cushions are also a handy item to bring with you, especially if you are in for a long session. They can provide extra comfort and support. Whilst we provide couch roll, alongside this, a towel or t-shirt can also provide an extra level of comfort on the bed.

Blankets or extra layers such as cosy socks and jumpers can help to keep you warm if you are sitting for a few hours. We try and keep the studio warm and toasty, but the temperature can change in the room. It’s also good to bring these along if you are getting tattooed in a placement where you will need to remove clothing, to keep you warm.

Snacks are a great way of keeping your energy levels up and blood sugar stable during a tattoo. Whilst sugary snacks provide a quick sugar hit - good if you’re feeling a little lightheaded - we also recommend bringing along some healthier snacks to munch on to keep your blood sugars stable for longer and avoid that sugar crash! Nuts, fruit and sandwiches are a great option. Your artist will allow for any breaks needed as necessary during your tattoo, including a lunch break if you’re in for the long haul! We have local shops and cafes nearby too, so if you do forget your snacks, they are only around the corner.

Drinks are provided, such as water, tea, coffee, cordials and fizzy drinks, however if you have a favourite drink, do bring that with you. Take regular sips during your session to stay hydrated and to keep your sugar levels up, this will make the session more bearable. Do try to avoid caffeine and energy drinks that contain caffeine, as these can raise your blood pressure and heart rate, making the experience more uncomfortable for you.

Books and headphones can help keep you occupied and distracted during your session. Just check with your artist first to make sure reading a book won’t affect your posture for tattooing in any way, we do try to accommodate where we can.

Phone chargers are good to bring along if you wish to listen to podcasts or watch videos on your phone.

The most important thing for us is that you feel at ease in our studio and during your tattoo. We hope these tips will make your session with us an enjoyable one. Don’t forget to read our advice on how to prepare a few days before your appointment here too.
